Matt Campbell and the Iowa State Cyclones are doing a solid job of improving their resume and putting a bit of a shine on the way this season looks. Even though Iowa State won’t be making it to the Big 12 Championship Game this season, the Cyclones can still lock up a really solid spot in a really solid bowl game.

Nine wins are still on the table for the Iowa State football team. That’s something that is still theoretically possible for Iowa State. And Saturday’s 38-14 victory over the Kansas Jayhawks really goes a long way to helping the Cyclones move in that direction.

Iowa State’s bowl prospects continue to improve as the Cyclones are now one step closer to an eight-win regular season. Getting eight wins in a regular season in Ames, Iowa is always something to celebrate and enjoy, even if this season hasn’t gone the way that Iowa State fans have wanted it to go.

Iowa State’s lopsided win over Kansas moves the Cyclones up in the Big 12 standings

Here’s how the Big 12 standings look following Iowa State’s strong home win over the Jayhawks:

  • Texas Tech Red Raiders (10-1 overall, 7-1 Big 12)
  • BYU Cougars (8-1 overall, 5-1 Big 12)
  • Houston Cougars (8-2 overall, 5-2 big 12)
  • Cincinnati Bearcats (7-3 overall, 5-2 Big 12)
  • Arizona State Sun Devils (7-3 overall, 5-2 Big 12)
  • Utah Utes (7-2 overall, 4-2 Big 12)
  • Kansas State Wildcats (5-5 overall, 4-3 Big 12)
  • Arizona Wildcats (7-3 overall, 4-3 Big 12)
  • Iowa State Cyclones (7-4 overall, 4-4 Big 12)
  • TCU Horned Frogs (6-3 overall, 3-3 Big 12)
  • Baylor Bears (5-4 overall, 3-3 Big 12)
  • Kansas Jayhawks (5-6 overall, 3-5 Big 12)
  • West Virginia Mountaineers (4-7 overall, 2-6 Big 12)
  • UCF Knights (4-6 overall, 1-6 Big 12)
  • Colorado Buffaloes (3-7 overall, 1-6 Big 12)
  • Oklahoma State Cowboys (1-9 overall, 0-7 Big 12)

For Texas Tech, it stinks to see one of the Red Raiders’ wins lose a little bit of value and intrigue. Though it really doesn’t matter all that much, it still would have been nice to see Kansas get a win here to help make Texas Tech’s lopsided win over the Jayhawks a bit better.

Again, that’s nothing of consequence, but a little bit of bragging rights here and there are always fun to have.
