While the college football transfer portal window isn’t open, at least one Big Ten quarterback has found a new way to find a new home. And it looks like college football fans believe the Texas Tech Red Raiders might have something to do with it.
Karson Gordon, a three-star quarterback who has spent his college football career up to this point with the UCLA Bruins, is looking to leave Los Angeles and the Bruins. Apparently, he’d like to run track. That’s not uncommon or shocking. Plenty of athletes are involved in multiple sports. It’s a whole thing. But apparently, according to On3’s Pete Nakos, Gordon is using the transfer portal for track and then still intends to play football.
And that’s upsetting a few folks out in the world.
NEW: UCLA QB Karson Gordon plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal, @PeteNakos confirms.

Gordon will enter as a track athlete but play football.https://t.co/sadApytHea pic.twitter.com/KovZiauJld
If you check the replies, you’ll find plenty of people blaming the Texas Tech Red Raiders for this. And there’s no evidence of that. At least not that I know of. All I know is that Texas Tech previously recruited Gordon when he was in high school and the 6-foot-1, 180 pound quarterback is from the state of Texas.
Which, uh, yeah.
But even though there’s no public concrete proof that the Red Raiders are behind this situation with Gordon as he’s leaving the Bruins, that’s not stopping college football fans from believing McGuire and Texas Tech are up to something here.
College football fans believe Texas Tech is up to something as UCLA quarterback Karson Gordon hits the transfer portal for track
Here’s what college football fans had to say about Texas Tech and this situation as Gordon is looking to move on from the UCLA Bruins thanks to this new way through the transfer portal:

Texas Tech track program is a powerhouse would be glad to add this young man

Look, I’m not saying that Gordon is definitively going to end up in Lubbock. I have no clue. Absolutely no source to indicate that he could be playing for McGuire and the Red Raiders. But, again, he’s a quarterback. He’s apparently interested in playing football. He’s from Texas. When he was in high school, he was recruited by Texas Tech. And the Red Raiders need a quarterback.
Tech is the choice. Elite track program and needs a QB.

He’s definitely ending up at Texas Tech, right?

Can’t play football. Sorry. No to the Texas Tech Cheatin Raiders.

“Why does everyone hate Texas Tech?”
— Mosqueda, Dany (@DanyMosqueda) May 28, 2026
There’s no way he ends up anywhere else.
Some folks out there might be breaking out tinfoil hats and firing up some conspiracy theories, but weirder things have happened and we’re in a really weird moment for college athletics right now.

Texas Tech Qb until Hammond is Healthy, Tech is the king of loopholes

A lot of folks are just cracking jokes about this, but there are some who seem to seriously believe that McGuire and the Red Raiders are up to something here. We’ll see how it all pans out. Right now there’s no real reason to suspect that he’ll be playing for Texas Tech next season.
We'll see how this one plays out for Texas Tech and for Gordon. It'll be hilarious if he ends up somewhere other than Lubbock. And to be completely honest, none of this would be a real story of any sort of consequence for Texas Tech if the situation around Brendan Sorsby and the related NCAA ruling wasn't an issue for the Red Raiders.
