As I was going around social media, checking in to see how Texas Tech fans (and college football fans at large) were racing to share their thoughts on the most recent recruiting success from Joey McGuire and the Red Raiders, I stumbled across a fun, little moment that I didn’t expect.

As McGuire and the Red Raiders got a commitment from Donovan Webb, a 4-star safety out of Frisco, Texas, folks were mocking the Michigan Wolverines. And I didn’t necessarily expect that, for some reason. I mean, I knew that Webb was also being recruited by the Wolverines, but for some reason, I wasn’t thinking that people would poke fun at Michigan for missing out on Texas Tech.

Which, admittedly, is a little dumb on my part. I should have known this was going to happen.

Now, I’m not going to pretend to be an expert on Michigan football or the Wolverines’ recruiting priorities right now. That’s not something I’ve done anywhere near enough research on to truly understand the full context for what’s going on.

Texas Tech and Ohio State fans have fun mocking Michigan as TTU picks up commitment from 4-star safety out of Frisco

But you know, I just kinda enjoyed the fact that Texas Tech fans (and Ohio State fans and folks who just wanted to poke fun at Michigan) got together to enjoy this moment at the Wolverines’ expense.

Just a quick note before we continue, this one wins. This one is my favorite.

My favorite thing about college football rivalries is the way folks will weigh in on things that have nothing to do with their school at all as long as their rival is on the losing end of something.

It’s not just “my school and favorite teams are better than yours,” it’s a “I’m going to enjoy every moment of misery that your team has and I will celebrate those moments to the fullness of my ability” sort of thing. God bless college football and petty college football fans.

Tons of folks got in on enjoying this one.

And hey, look, some Michigan fans even got in on the fun.

Texas Tech is having a pretty good moment right now as Joey McGuire and the Red Raiders continue to do well in picking up defensive talent. It’ll be fascinating to see who else TTU is able to beat out on the recruiting trail as we move forward.
