Well, uh, it’s a good thing that Gerry Glasco told everyone not to celebrate too early following Texas Tech’s thrilling Game 1 win in the Gainesville Super Regional. It’s going to be difficult to beat the Florida Gators two times in their house and Glasco knew that and now the whole world is more than aware of that. Glasco knew that Florida wasn’t finished and he was right to talk about that yesterday.
Just moments after Texas Tech’s 10-8 back-and-forth win over the Gators, Glasco spoke in a postgame press conference and made it clear that he wasn’t going to look too far ahead. He wasn’t going to let the Red Raiders get ahead of themselves and he more or less warned fans about that as well.
And roughly 24 hours after Glasco issued that warning about how difficult it would be to get a second win over Florida, the Gators just handed Texas Tech an alarming 10-2 beating.
“It’s too early,” Glasco said yesterday. “We’ve got to get the win and we’ll think about it.”
Texas Tech head coach Gerry Glasco saw the potential for a Game 2 challenge and he was absolutely right
And he was absolutely, 100 percent right about that. He was also right to explain it all as follows:
“We’ll move to the next step if we’re lucky enough to get another win. It will not be easy to win another game here. We’ve got to stay focused,” Glasco said in his Game 1 postgame press conference.
So yeah. Anyone who thought that Glasco’s postgame press conference was just coach speak is wrong. Tim Walton is one heck of a head coach and the Red Raiders are going to have to battle in Game 3 to get a trip to Oklahoma City. This won’t just be an easy sort of thing to accomplish.
