The Texas Tech Red Raiders need just one more win to be able to get back to the Women’s College World Series, but the head coach of the Texas Tech softball team isn’t celebrating just yet. While the Red Raiders were able to take Game 1 of the Gainesville Super Regional away from the Florida Gators, Texas Tech does need another win and that won’t be something that comes easy.

Of course, Gerry Glasco knows that. And he’s doing everything he possibly can to make sure that his team knows that. And that the rest of the world knows that. Florida is good. Texas Tech is good. This is a best-of-three series that could be tricky for the Red Raiders.

Following the 10-8 win over the Gators, it’d be real easy to get caught up in emotions and reflecting on where the Red Raiders are and how close they are to being back in Oklahoma City.

“It’s too early,” Glasco said in a postgame press conference following the Red Raiders’ win vs Florida in Game 1. “We’ve got to get the win and we’ll think about it.

Gerry Glasco has a clear message about how it's too early to celebrate as Texas Tech looks to get another win while facing Florida

It’d be so easy, given the history of the Texas Tech softball program, to get caught up in this specific moment. So it’s a good thing that Glasco has some perspective (and a healthy amount of respect and awareness) for what the Red Raiders are facing this weekend. The Gators, under Tim Walton, are nearly unstoppable. They’re a force.

“It’s an honor for me to be here playing at Florida against a great Florida program, a great coach like Walton,” Glasco said. “That’s an honor for me.”

As such, Glasco wants it to be abundantly clear that Texas Tech can’t just assume that they’ll get past Florida with ease.

“We’ll move to the next step if we’re lucky enough to get another win,” Glasco continued. “It will not be easy to win another game here. We’ve got to stay focused.”
