It sure seems like Oklahoma City is a focal point for Texas Tech fans (and just about anyone associated with the Red Raiders) right now. And for good reason! The Texas Tech softball team is off to a really strong start in the 2025 Women’s College World Series, which is just a continuation of a really dominant season for Gerry Glasco and his Red Raiders.
But, Glasco isn’t the only Texas Tech head coach that is paying close attention to what’s going on at the Women’s College World Series. It sure looks like that the head coach of the Texas Tech football team, Joey McGuire, is also keeping a close eye on the happenings in Oklahoma City.
Like Patrick Mahomes, McGuire is making sure to showcase his support for the Red Raiders as they continue this wild ride of a season.
Texas Tech football’s Joey McGuire throws his support behind Tech’s softball team as Red Raiders beat the Ole Miss Rebels in WCWS
Here’s what McGuire had to say after the Red Raiders sent the SEC’s Ole Miss Rebels into the elimination bracket with a 1-0 shutout beating on the first day of the 2025 Women’s College World Series:
It is, objectively speaking, a good thing for McGuire (and Mahomes and various other prominent and noteworthy Texas Tech-related figures) to get on board with this fantastic and fun softball season. Promoting what has been an absolute success at so many different levels for Texas Tech and getting this sort of fun in front of more people?
Well, that’s a good thing for the TTU softball program and it certainly means that more support for this program is more likely to show up. Which is a good thing, folks.
Oh! And it’s also worth noting that McGuire has some experience with facing off against Ole Miss and handing the Rebels a beating. In McGuire’s first season as the head coach of the Red Raiders, he handed Lane Kiffin a 42-25 defeat during the 2022 Texas Bowl. That’s always fun.
