Even though things didn’t go the way that the Texas Tech Red Raiders wanted on Saturday as the Texas Tech softball team came up short against the Tennessee Lady Volunteers, Gerry Glasco made sure to look at the full picture that was in front of him. Not everything went horribly and Texas Tech’s head coach made sure to make that clear.
Glasco, in his postgame press conference, took a moment to compliment what Kaitlyn Terry and NiJaree Canady brought to the table for the Red Raiders in their matchup with the Lady Volunteers in Game 7 of the 2026 Women’s College World Series.
“I thought the pitchers were phenomenal,” Glasco said of his pitching staff. “I thought KT and NiJa combined to give us every opportunity to win that game.”
Now, while he was doing that, Glasco also pointed out how the Red Raiders missed multiple opportunities against the Lady Volunteers. And that’s a problem.
“I don’t know how many times we had chances, but I feel like we had the bases loaded and maybe second and third,” Glasco explained. “There were several times we had that opportunity. There were runners on third with one out and struck out with that and had a fly ball to tie it, but could have been up 2-1 right there.”
Gerry Glasco calls Texas Tech’s pitching ‘phenomenal’ in Red Raiders’ 2-1 WCWS loss to Tennessee
Texas Tech’s pitching staff did everything it possibly could to keep the Red Raiders in this game. And yeah, it sucks that both Canady and Terry ended up giving up home runs to a Tennessee softball team that doesn’t hit a ton of home runs. But at the same time, Texas Tech’s pitchers only yielded two runs in this game.
“Just, you know, it wasn’t our day,” Glasco said. “Give credit to Tennessee for playing a great defensive game on the other side of the field.”
Unfortunately, things just didn’t go Texas Tech’s way as they came up short against the Lady Volunteers. And now the Red Raiders are facing elimination. So much of that is because of the way Texas Tech’s bats seemingly evaporated despite the pitching staying strong.
“We just didn’t get the win,” Glasco said. “I give Tennessee credit and their coaching staff and players for playing nine great innings of softball.”
Texas Tech now has a chance to bounce back. We’ll see what the Red Raiders are capable of doing with it as they get the distinct pleasure of playing the UCLA Bruins in an elimination game on Sunday.
