We’re already through one day of the 2026 Women’s College World Series. In a few hours, we’re going to see two of the eight teams to make it to Oklahoma City have to pack their bags and head on home. Elimination games are upon us.

That spells bad news for teams like the Texas Longhorns, the UCLA Bruins, the Mississippi State Bulldogs, and the Arkansas Razorbacks. For teams like the Texas Tech Red Raiders, the Tennessee Lady Vols, the Alabama Crimson Tide, and the Nebraska Cornhuskers, things are just fine. Texas Tech, Tennessee, Alabama, and Nebraska all won on Day 1.

That means they get to rest on Day 2.

But before we get ahead of ourselves, let’s go over how we got to this point.

2026 Women’s College World Series Day 1 rundown: Texas Tech secures easy Game 1 win

Texas Tech managed to hand the Mississippi State Bulldogs an 8-0 run-rule defeat in just five innings. That was by far the most clear and emphatic result of the day. The Red Raiders are clearly present in Oklahoma City and ready to compete for a national title. Mississippi State just looked outmatched on Day 1, which is shocking considering how they took care of Oklahoma in the Super Regional.

Following the Red Raiders’ dominant win, the Texas Longhorns took a loss from the Tennessee Lady Vols. Even though UT has been so impressive all season long, the Longhorns weren’t able to get through Day 1 unscathed. Now they’re just one loss away from being sent back to Austin.

And then there’s the Alabama Crimson Tide taking care of business against a UCLA team that has put up absurd numbers of runs all throughout the season. It didn’t matter that the Bruins have been able to homer off of just about anyone they’ve come across. Alabama won their matchup by a score of 6-3 and put UCLA in danger of being eliminated.

Like Mississippi State, Arkansas is in its first ever trip to the Women’s College World Series and the Razorbacks are just one loss away from going home. The Razorbacks went into extra innings against the Nebraska softball team and ended up coming up short in the 10th inning.

Now, Mississippi State will meet up with the Longhorns on Friday. UCLA and Arkansas are set to face off after the Bulldogs and Longhorns finish. Tennessee will get Texas Tech on Saturday. Then we’ll see Alabama and Nebraska.
