The 2025-2026 college football season has fully wrapped up and it’s official: Texas Tech is the highest ranked team in the state of Texas. At least that’s according to the AP poll, whose voters collectively decided that the Red Raiders were worthy of a ranking that was better than literally every other team from the Lone Star State.
We’ve been able to take a look at the final college football rankings of the 2025 season and the Red Raiders are ahead of the rest of the state of Texas in the AP Poll Top 25.
That’s a pretty cool thing to see given the overall history of Texas Tech football and some of the struggles (some of which were pretty recent) that the Red Raiders have gone through all throughout the years.
Texas Tech wraps up the 2025 college football season as the highest ranked team from Texas, according to the AP Poll voters
Here’s where the best teams from Texas ended up getting set in the final college football rankings from the 2025 AP Poll voters:
- No. 7 - Texas Tech Red Raiders
- No. 8 - Texas A&M Aggies
- No. 12 - Texas Longhorns
- No. 22 - Houston Cougars
- No. 24 - North Texas Mean Green
- No. 25 - TCU Horned Frogs
Obviously the season didn’t end the way that McGuire and the Red Raiders had intended for it to. It’s not the sort of outcome that Texas Tech football fans really wanted to see. This season didn’t wrap up all that great!
And still, 12 wins, just a couple of losses, and a really fun ride all along the way.
Plus, the Red Raiders are recruiting at a really high level. Texas Tech is winning a lot of recruiting battles along the way and adding the sort of talent it needs to through the transfer portal to continue to build in a way to continue to move forward as a program.
As long as that momentum continues, the Texas Tech football program will continue to be in a pretty good spot. That’s exciting to think about.
