This whole Gainesville Super Regional has been a little stressful, folks. I don’t know if it’s just me, but the way these past three Texas Tech softball games have played out has been absolutely fascinating and certainly something to watch. And also just a little mentally exhausting.
Texas Tech won Game 1 in shocking fashion, stumbled through a Game 2 loss, and then came out and run-ruled the Florida Gators after a weather delay in a dominant display of just how much firepower the Red Raiders have assembled on their roster. In just five innings, Texas Tech took care of business against the Gators today, beating Florida 16-7 and earning a spot in the 2026 Women’s College World Series.
This game was fascinating.
Early on, Texas Tech and Florida were trading punches back and forth. Early on, it looked like whoever had the last at-bat would be the team that won. But then Texas Tech just kept its foot on the gas and Florida’s pitching depth ran out. 10 hits, eight walks, 14 RBI, and 16 runs scored as a team for the Red Raiders.
Meanwhile, Florida’s roster scored seven runs off of nine hits and three walks and just ultimately couldn’t keep up because Texas Tech had the luxury of being able to turn to two dominant pitchers while the Gators had no depth there.
Texas Tech softball fans are absolutely thrilled the Red Raiders crushed Florida and are headed to the Women’s College World Series
Now, Texas Tech fans are over the moon with the fact that the Red Raiders are headed back to Oklahoma City for the second time in as many seasons. As they should be! This is something to celebrate. Texas Tech is a legitimately dangerous program that can compete at the highest level.

The Red Raiders will need to face off against some fascinating opponents once they make it to Oklahoma City. Nothing is a given. But this Texas Tech team really looks like a national title contender that is capable of winning in just about any sort of contest.

Whether it’s a low-scoring pitchers’ duel or a home run derby, this team is built to compete and win. And as the Florida Gators found out in this best-of-three series, it’s hard to take two games away from Texas Tech.

For the second time ever, Texas Tech softball is going to be present in Oklahoma City. For the second time ever, the Red Raiders will have a shot to compete for winning it all. This is a program that never made it past a regional prior to 2025. Now it’s built to compete for national titles.
