As we get closer and closer to the start of the 2025 Texas Tech football season, there’s no doubt that Red Raider fans are keeping a close eye on all that Joey McGuire is up to and can accomplish. This offseason has been one full of recruiting success and that trend has continued this week. Texas Tech fans have every right to be thrilled with McGuire right now.

On Thursday, McGuire was able to secure a commitment from 4-star cornerback S’Vioarean Martin from Palestine, Texas (shoutout to Whiskey Myers and the rest of East Texas).

Martin, currently the highest rated recruit in Texas Tech’s 2026 recruiting class, is part of a fascinating push to get defensive players into Lubbock. Of the 15 commits that the Red Raiders currently have in their 2026 recruiting class, 11 of them play on the defensive side of the ball. That’s four defensive linemen, two linebackers, and five defensive backs (of which Martin is one).

Texas Tech football fans absolutely should feel pretty dang good about this addition to their recruiting class. And, if you take a scroll through the comments TTU fans are making on social media, it looks like they definitely are.

Here’s what Texas Tech fans had to say:

I, for one, am a huge fan of the memes. Keep the memes going, folks. They're brilliant.

I mean, yeah, I guess you could predict a championship. That, my friends, is a bit of a bold prediction. But to be fair, they never said when exactly that national title crown would come.

Go ahead and enjoy this one, Texas Tech fans. You absolutely should be thrilled that the Red Raiders are having some crootin success under McGuire.

Now, that said, there's still room for improvement. Texas Tech is in the 30's of both the On3 and the 247 Sports recruiting class rankings. But, plenty of time to get that moving in the right direction. And adding players like Martin will certainly help.
