Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech Red Raiders could make this season into a pretty special one. With the talent assembled in Lubbock, there are plenty of people who seem to believe that Mcguire and the Red Raiders have what they need to make a splash in the Big 12 and cause plenty of headaches for people this season.
We’ve already talked a bit about how you can count Kenny Dillingham amongst those that believe that. Now we need to talk about how Texas Tech fans are skeptical of (and flat out confused by) the praise from Dillingham.
This is part of such an interesting trend in college football where opposing coaches are sharing their thoughts very openly on social media. And now we have a rival Big 12 coach weighing in and saying that Texas Tech is talented enough to win the conference this year?
Is it some sort of mental warfare? Possibly. Is it chaotic? A little. Is it fun? Absolutely.
Texas Tech football fans don’t trust compliments provided by Arizona State Sun Devils head coach Kenny Dillingham
Yeah, when you look at this objectively, I love that Dillingham is having fun with another fanbase. Do I love that it’s Texas Tech fans he’s potentially playing mind games with? Not really. Is it still funny in a “chaotic era of college football continues to be chaotic” sort of way? I mean... Yeah. And I kinda like that.

It definitely could be a trap, folks.

Chill out there, bud. Don’t make me like you more than I already do.

It’s also definitely a little confusing.
This man is sandbagging trying to get the attention off his team!! I respect it coach.

And maybe it is sandbagging and mind games and just a ton of fun for the head coach of the Sun Devils.

You a real one Coach. 🤝

There were, of course, still plenty of people who supported Kenny Dillingham’s belief in what the Red Raiders are capable of accomplishing this coming season.
I don’t totally know what to make of Dillingham’s compliments for the roster that McGuire assembled. What I do know is that I love this part of this era of college football and the fact that a potentially very benign compliment for the Red Raiders is getting such a wide variety of responses. The skepticism is a little fun.
