As Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech Red Raiders gear up for the 2025 college football season, they’ll have one of the most talented rosters (at least on paper) that Lubbock has seen in a little while. And that’s leading many to understandably believe that this is a bit of a prove it year for McGuire. He needs to win big to show that the roster investment is worth it.

If you ask one coach elsewhere in the Big 12, McGuire winning big this season is certainly possible. We’ve already talked a bit about how other coaches have spoken anonymously about the Red Raiders as we prepare for the 2025 season.

I mean, we've talked about this a few times. Everything from expectations to NIL, so on and so forth. All from anonymous coaches so far.

Now let’s talk about how Arizona State Sun Devils football head coach Kenny Dillingham is publicly speaking out praising the amount of talent that McGuire and the Red Raiders have accumulated heading into 2025.

Arizona State head coach Kenny Dillingham publicly states he believes the Red Raiders have the talent to compete for Big 12 crown in 2025

On the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, Dillingham publicly (and with his verified account, not a burner account) shared that he agreed with Max Chadwick (a college football analyst with Pro Football Focus) as Chadwick noted that Texas Tech could compete for the Big 12 crown this season.

Take it from the man himself:

Now, we absolutely have to talk about how this is a bit bizarre, but I’m 100 percent here for it. You don’t often hear another coach publicly praise a team’s roster like this. But hey, college football is in a weird place and I greatly appreciate a coach who can be unconventional in his approaches.

Also, we definitely need to talk about how Dillingham and the Sun Devils are going to be one of the teams to beat in the Big 12. They’re intense. They’re good. And they really took the Big 12 by storm this past season.

Yes, the Red Raiders and McGuire did get a win over the Sun Devils, but that was early on in the season and it happened before Dillingham’s team found its groove. These two teams will match up once again this season in a game that will certainly be worth paying close attention to.
