In the 100th season of Texas Tech football, we’ll have the opportunity to witness the Red Raiders face off against the Kent State Golden Flashes for the very first time ever. This is a game that has never happened before and it’s happening this year.

If you’re wondering why the Red Raiders and Golden Flashes have yet to meet even though Texas Tech has a century’s worth of football to brag about, then I want you to consider the fact that there’s a ton of miles separating these two campuses. I mean, we’re talking about 1000 or so miles, I imagine.

Folks, that’s one-third of the way to getting an oil change for your car (unless you use synthetic oil, that is).

But despite the distance, this season is the season that a little bit of Texas Tech history is made as we get to see the Red Raiders and Kent State face off. That said, when will this game take place?

2025 Texas Tech football schedule: When will the Red Raiders face Kent State?

During the second week of the season, we’ll get to watch the Red Raiders and the Golden Flashes face off in Lubbock. Unfortunately, this game won’t be at a great kickoff time. I mean, I love 11 a.m. kickoffs, but I certainly understand why folks don’t enjoy them. Especially in west Texas during early September.

It is almost certainly going to be HOT on September 6, 2025 and there’s no way that the Red Raiders will have air conditioning in their football stadium. So, we’ll get to witness Texas Tech play an early afternoon game against Kent State.

But there are a few things that work in Tech’s favor here. In addition to the fact that the Red Raiders will get a chance to get what should be a relatively easy win, we’re also talking about another chance to shake off the rust of the offseason and for all of those new faces on TTU’s roster to get familiar with the system and their teammates.
