While Gerry Glasco and the Texas Tech Red Raiders softball team work to prepare for the Florida Gators and the 2026 Gainesville Super Regional, it sounds like Glasco is pretty impressed with what UF is able to do in the circle. Texas Tech’s head coach has been very complimentary of and impressed by the Gators as a whole, but he certainly seems impressed by Florida pitcher Keagan Rothrock.
During a recent press conference, when prompted to talk a bit about a quick scouting report of the Gators, Glasco was quick to note that they’re a well-rounded team, but he certainly made it clear that he was impressed with what Rothrock was capable of.
“They have a really good pitcher in Keagan Rothrock,” Glasco stated. “They have really good hitters, they’re just a really good ball team.”
Keagan Rothrock is a huge reason as to why Texas Tech head coach Gerry Glasco is so complimentary of the Florida Gators
When asked to explain what he saw in Rothrock that led to him pointing her out, Glasco made it clear that she’s able to cause problems for hitters in a variety of ways.
“The ability to go up and down, change speeds,” Glasco explained. “She throws a rise ball at two different speeds. She can get you with the changeup.”
And it’s so important to look at the stats here. For the season, Rothrock has managed to compile a 29-6 win-loss record. Along the way, she’s put together a 2.42 ERA and has managed to strike out 179 opposing batters in 196.1 innings pitched. Opposing batters have only put together a .191 batting average when facing Rothrock.
“She’s a veteran pitcher and she's been through this a few times,” Glasco said. “Very, very proven and very experienced.
Rothrock happens to be Florida’s best pitcher, but their whole staff has shown plenty of potential and could cause problems for the Red Raiders. As a team, Florida has a 2.73 ERA, 25 complete games, 311 strikeouts, and opponents have a .218 batting average against the Gators.
