It’s so fascinating that Tim Tadlock’s Texas Tech Red Raiders are capable of leading the Big 12 in batting average and still get swept by a team like the TCU Horned Frogs, who have one of the worst batting averages in the conference.

To be completely clear about this, we’re talking about a team that is among the best in the nation when it comes to hitting and the Red Raiders are struggling. That’s a huge issue. It’s alarming that Texas Tech’s bats may lead the Big 12, but the pitching problems have led to the Red Raiders sitting at 4-5 in conference play.

The Red Raiders came out of their series in Fort Worth with the best batting average in the conference at .358, which is 29 points better than the Arizona State Sun Devils who hold a .329 batting average right now.

Texas Tech’s .358 batting average is the best in the Big 12 by a wide margin and the Red Raiders still got swept by TCU

Seriously, TCU has the second worst batting average in the conference and still managed to take all three games over the weekend. That’s not great!

  • Texas Tech Red Raiders - .358 batting average
  • Arizona State Sun Devils - .329 batting average
  • Kansas State Wildcats - .325 batting average
  • West Virginia Mountaineers - .324 batting average
  • Cincinnati Bearcats - .307 batting average
  • Utah Utes - .304 batting average
  • UCF Knights - .295 batting average
  • BYU Cougars - .284 batting average
  • Houston Cougars - .281 batting average
  • Kansas Jayhawks - .278 batting average
  • Oklahoma State Cowboys - .272 batting average
  • Baylor Bears - .269 batting average
  • TCU Horned Frogs - .262 batting average
  • Arizona Wildcats - .257 batting average

The Red Raiders are able to boast such an impressive batting average largely thanks to the depth they’ve accumulated in their lineup. The Red Raiders have a multitude of batters (nine in total at this moment) with batting averages above .333 on the season right now. All of those players have played at least 23 of the 27 games Texas Tech has been in this season. That’s insane.
