The series over in Forth Worth really didn’t go all that well for the Texas Tech Red Raiders. And there’s plenty of angles that we can discuss there. We can talk about all of the pitching issues that the Texas Tech baseball team has (which we’ll get into soon enough in another post, I’m sure).
But for right now, let’s just sit back and enjoy the things that the Red Raiders do well. Like being among the best in the Big 12 when it comes to getting extra base hits. Especially doubles. Texas Tech is basically the best in the Big 12 when it comes to hitting doubles. There’s just one other team in the conference that is having as much success at hitting doubles as the Red Raiders are.
Right now, that’s the Kansas State Wildcats, who have also managed to hit 77 doubles on the season so far.
77 doubles and counting: The Texas Tech Red Raiders and the Kansas State Wildcats lead the Big 12
For our purposes, we’re going to put the Red Raiders first on this bulleted list:
- Texas Tech Red Raiders - 77 doubles
- Kansas State Wildcats - 77 doubles
- West Virginia Mountaineers - 60 doubles
- Cincinnati Bearcats - 56 doubles
- Arizona State Sun Devils - 55 doubles
- Oklahoma State Cowboys - 54 doubles
- Houston Cougars - 54 doubles
- BYU Cougars - 52 doubles
- Utah Utes - 51 doubles
- Arizona Wildcats - 50 doubles
- Kansas Jayhawks - 46 doubles
- Baylor Bears - 44 doubles
- UCF Knights - 43 doubles
- TCU Horned Frogs - 32 doubles
For Texas Tech specifically, Caden Ferraro (one of the Red Raiders’ best hitters) is leading the way for the Red Raiders with 11 doubles on the season. Linkin Garcia isn’t far behind with 10 and then there’s Logan Huges with nine.
It’s so interesting to see how different teams operate. Just speaking objectively for a moment, college baseball is such an intriguing sport because it’s clear that the TCU Horned Frogs and Texas Tech Red Raiders operate so very differently and yet TCU still managed to claim the series via a sweep over the weekend.
