As Joey McGuire and the rest of his Texas Tech football team’s coaching staff continues to stay active on the recruiting trail, the Red Raiders are continuing to have unsurprising amounts of success in picking up commitments from new players from across the state of Texas.

That’s not to say that the Red Raiders are recruiting exclusively in the state of Texas, but so far it sure looks like Tech is prioritizing owning the recruiting footprint in the Lone Star State as much as it possibly can.

Given how much talent is present throughout the state of Texas, that’s not a bad strategy.

With the latest commitment into Texas Tech’s 2027 recruiting class, the Red Raiders now have six players lined up to play in Lubbock as part of this next recruiting cycle (as with any sort of recruiting news, it’s certainly worth mentioning that a lot can happen between now and signing day, but things look good right now).

Meet Texas Tech’s six commits for the Red Raiders’ strong 2027 recruiting class

Jhadyn Nelson is the most recent high school player to say that he’ll play for Texas Tech, but he’s not alone in this batch of recruits interested in playing in Lubbock. So far, there are six players in total (five of whom are from the state of Texas).

  • Jalen Brewster - 5-star DL from Cedar Hill, Texas
  • Benny Easter - 4-star WR from Humble, Texas
  • Kavian Bryant - 4-star QB from Palestine, Texas
  • K’Adrian Redmond - 4-star DL from DeSoto, Texas
  • Jhadyn Nelson - 4-star LB from Houston, Texas
  • Brody Pfannenstiel - 3-star Edge from Hoisington, Kansas

It’s interesting (and also very encouraging) to see just how much star power the Red Raiders have on the defensive side of things and how that seems to continue to be a priority for Texas Tech. Two defensive linemen, one linebacker, one edge. That’s a lot of emphasis on that side of the ball. And given Texas Tech’s success on defense last season, that’s great to see.
