As the No. 11 national seed (and the owner of 53 wins on the season), Gerry Glasco and the Texas Tech Red Raiders softball team are looking to keep moving right along in their regional after taking care of business against the Marist Red Foxes. Next up for the Red Raiders is the Ole Miss Rebels, who managed to beat Boston University 8-6.
When you start looking at these two teams, you’ll find that the Red Raiders own a pretty massive stat advantage over the Rebels. Still, this isn’t an Ole Miss team that Texas Tech can simply overlook. The Rebels did get here with some notable momentum towards the end of the season.
Everything you need to know about how the Texas Tech Red Raiders have a solid stat gap between them and the Ole Miss Rebels
Here’s how these two teams compare entering the matchup:
- Batting average - Texas Tech: .388 vs Ole Miss: .291

Pretty much all across the board, Texas Tech is a considerably better team than what the Rebels are putting out on the field right now. Texas Tech has seven players that are hitting at .333 or better. In the circle, NiJaree Canady has a 1.24 ERA and 209 strikeouts while Kaitlyn Terry has a 1.32 ERA and 149 strikeouts. Opponents are averaging just .168 at the plate against Texas Tech’s pitching staff. And then there’s the stolen bases, where Texas Tech has 125 on the season.
Ole Miss is still dangerous though. Madi George has a .386 batting average and 22 home runs on the season. There’s Mackenzie Pickens with 10 home runs on the year as well. Plus, the Rebels have recently found ways to beat the Tennessee Lady Vols, the South Carolina Gamecocks, and the Mississippi State Bulldogs.
Texas Tech can’t just assume that this game against the Rebels will end up as a win. There is talent in Ole Miss’ dugout. But the Red Raiders are looking considerably better (as a whole) than the Rebels right now.
