It’s been a thrilling ride watching the Texas Tech Red Raiders make a run all the way to Game 3 of the 2025 Women’s College World Series Finals. In what was the first ever appearance for the Red Raiders in Oklahoma City and the Women’s College World Series, Gerry Glasco was able to guide his Texas Tech softball team within one win of claiming a national title.

What a heck of a run it has been for Glasco, the Red Raiders softball team, and Texas Tech fans everywhere.

It’s incredibly frustrating that this is the manner in which the Red Raiders are coming up short of being crowned the national champs. Losing to the Texas Longhorns in lopsided fashion is never how you want things to go.

But it really seemed like Texas Tech just ran out of steam in Game 3 while the Longhorns just kept trucking along without any real issue.

Texas Tech softball stumbles into season ending loss against Texas Longhorns in Game 3 of 2025 Women’s College World Series finals

From the start of this game, the Red Raiders really seemed to struggle in ways that we were hoping they wouldn’t struggle. After a remarkable season with incredible performances time and time again, NiJaree Canady stumbled into an outing where she gave up five hits, allowed five runs (all of which were earned) and only struck out two opposing batters.

Oh, and Canady only threw one inning. That’s it. One inning. And that was a really painful inning to keep up with.

That one inning, the 1st inning, involved the Red Raiders watching Texas get five hits, take advantage of an error, steal a base, and smack a three-run home run. And that mess of an inning? Well, it sure set the tone for where this game was destined to go.

Texas continued to build a sizable lead over the Red Raiders and was, at one point, just one strike away from getting a run rule win against Texas Tech. TTU fought back and put a few runs on the board, but nowhere near enough to actually cut into the deficit in a meaningful way.

And now the season is done. It’s over. No more. The Red Raiders will start building and focusing on next year. There’s a lot to be proud of with how this season went. The ending stung. But now we’ll wait to see how Glasco and Texas Tech can build on this season’s momentum for next year.
