Can we take a moment to celebrate and acknowledge just how incredible it is to see NiJaree Canady continue to absolutely dominate opposing batters for the Texas Tech Red Raiders softball team?
I mean, we’re talking about a pitcher with an ERA that is below 1.00 across well over 200 innings pitched and she’s managed to continue to show up at every single point that the Red Raiders need her.
It truly is incredible how resilient she is. We’re talking about a pitcher that has made 40 appearances on the season and has struck out nearly 300 opposing batters this year all while only allowing a little over 40 walks and giving up just nine home runs.
And against the UCLA Bruins, Canady was incredible. Truly incredible.
Texas Tech softball fans must be absolutely over the moon about the way NiJaree Canady is performing for the Red Raiders
Now, it should be noted that Canady wasn’t perfect. Early on in the game against the UCLA Bruins, there were a few rough moments as she tried to figure out the strike zone and the Bruins managed to get a few batters on base.
But there was no real damage done by UCLA in this game. Yes, the Bruins did hit a home run, but Canady continued to keep this game really low scoring.
Through the complete game (seven full innings pitched), Canady only gave up a grand total of four hits all while still striking out seven Bruins throughout the game. She managed to keep things manageable for the Red Raiders and put Texas Tech in a great position all throughout this game.
And she did all of this just a couple of days after throwing a dominant complete game shutout of the Ole Miss Rebels to get TTU’s run in the 2025 Women’s College World Series started. This is just such an incredible and impressive showing when you add that sort of context in.
