Right now, the Texas Tech Red Raiders have a few pitching problems. I’ve talked about it a few times, I’ll likely continue to mention it as the season goes on. I don’t expect that to change in a drastic way any time soon. Because right now, the Red Raiders pitching staff owns the absolute worst ERA in the conference and we’re about to enter April.
While the Red Raiders may lead the Big 12 in hitting, the Texas Tech pitching staff is dead last when it comes to ERA by a full run. The gap that currently exists between Texas Tech and the second-worst team in the Big 12 when looking at team ERA is absolutely massive.
I mean, it’s more of a chasm than it is a gap.
Texas Tech’s 7.53 ERA is dragging the Red Raiders down in a horrifying way
And you want to know the worst part about that? The second-worst team, here? That’d be the TCU Horned Frogs. The team that just managed to sweep Texas Tech in Fort Worth over the weekend.
- West Virginia Mountaineers - 3.99 ERA
- UCF Knights - 4.24 ERA
- Cincinnati Bearcats - 4.78 ERA
- Arizona State Sun Devils - 5.16 ERA
- Baylor Bears - 5.21 ERA
- Arizona Wildcats - 5.50 ERA
- Kansas Jayhawks - 5.55 ERA
- Kansas State Wildcats - 5.86ERA
- Oklahoma State Cowboys - 5.89 ERA
- Houston Cougars - 5.98 ERA
- Utah Utes - 6.05 ERA
- BYU Cougars - 6.43 ERA
- TCU Horned Frogs - 6.54 ERA
- Texas Tech Red Raiders - 7.53 ERA
That’s just not good. Not good at all. The Red Raiders are functionally in a tier all their own at the moment. And that’s not a good thing.
Things are so lopsided for Tim Tadlock and the Texas Tech baseball team. For the Red Raiders to be so good at hitting and so bad at pitching feels rare. If the Red Raiders had even just an average (or plainly mediocre) pitching staff, then things wouldn’t be so dreadful for Texas Tech baseball fans. But here we are.
