Well. That sucks. It’s hard to put it in any other way. Losing to the Tennessee Lady Vols in the Women’s College World Series isn’t the worst thing to ever happen. Tennessee is a legitimately great program and the Lady Vols have assembled one heck of a team for their run to Oklahoma City this season.

But for Texas Tech’s bats to go completely silent in an extra inning loss to the Lady Vols?

That absolutely hurts to watch. Especially when Tennessee was able to launch a couple of home runs in this game and that was ultimately the difference between the Red Raiders and the Lady Vols. This one is going to sting for a bit. Texas Tech softball showed up in Oklahoma City with an offense that was red hot and it went completely cold against the Lady Vols.

Prior to the game, Texas Tech (as a team) was hitting with a .383 batting average and had knocked 137 home runs on the season. But the Red Raiders couldn’t get much going. In nine innings, Texas Tech had a grand total of just five hits. When the Red Raiders had runners in scoring position, Texas Tech went 1-for-5 at the plate.

Texas Tech wasted opportunities to do damage against the Lady Vols and it ultimately came back to bite them. Now the Red Raiders are facing elimination. Which sucks. Texas Tech is dropping to the elimination bracket and will face the UCLA Bruins at 6 p.m. on ESPN in a win-or-go home sort of situation.

With the loss, here’s how Texas Tech fans are reacting to the Red Raiders being one loss away from not winning a national title.

This loss is rough and it’s not a shocker that Texas Tech fans aren’t thrilled. Especially when this is a team that won 58 games up to this point and has seemingly not reached its full potential at any point this season. When Texas Tech faced Tennessee, they weren’t playing anywhere near their ceiling. And that came back to bite them here.

If Texas Tech isn’t careful, this season could turn ugly in a hurry. It’s been so special all the way up to this point and it’d be a shame for it to end on this sort of note. Texas Tech has to win three games in a row now. That’s easier said than done against the sort of competition that’s present in Oklahoma City.
