Well, Texas Tech softball fans are probably still trying to figure out if what they saw at Tracy Sellers Field this afternoon actually happened. In a game that was essentially over, with upwards of 90 degree heat, the Texas Tech Red Raiders made the case for fans to stay until the absolute last play.
When facing the Ole Miss Rebels, Texas Tech stumbled along through 6.2 innings. The Red Raiders found themselves down 8-0 with just one out remaining in the bottom of the seventh inning. And instead of sitting in misery and self-pity, the Texas Tech softball team managed to pull off a historic comeback that had never been seen before.Â
The Red Raiders became the first team in NCAA softball tournament history to come back from being down eight or more runs in the seventh inning.
A string of timely hits, some singles, and some home runs (including a grand slam) put the Red Raiders on top 10-9 in the bottom of the eighth inning. In the seventh inning alone, with two outs, down 8-0, the Red Raiders managed to score eight runs to tie things up. Despite everything, Texas Tech won.
It was a little stressful. I’m sure just about any Texas Tech softball fan would admit as much.
Texas Tech softball fans are over the moon with how the Red Raiders came back to beat Ole Miss
Here’s what Texas Tech fans had to say as the Red Raiders overcame an 8-run deficit against the Ole Miss Rebels:

RED RAIDER COMEBACKS NEVER DISAPPOINT

Texas Tech fans should be ecstatic (and also probably a little overwhelmed) with this one. To be completely honest, the fact that the Red Raiders were able to survive this matchup with Ole Miss (who definitely punched above their weight against Texas Tech) is just insane. That game was all sorts of stressful and worrying and the Red Raiders managed to come out on top.
Don’t ever do that to me again. I need to buy a defibrillator.

This team is so remarkable in so many ways. There’s an abundance of talent all over this roster. It’s pretty impressive. And even though Texas Tech seemingly fell asleep for much of this game, the Red Raiders found a way to get a win. Timely hitting with just one out remaining in the game at seemingly every turn put the Red Raiders on top.
What a come back!! https://t.co/YKVY0YLavr

Again, the fact that Texas Tech was able to win this game is something remarkable. The Red Raiders shouldn’t have been able to come away with a win here. A moral victory with a few runs late? Okay, yeah, that was expected. But a legitimate victory over a team that clearly had all the momentum and complete control over the game late? It’s just unheard of. And yet, Texas Tech did it.
