Folks, I think it’s safe to say that Keagan Rothrock and the Florida Gators found a way to shut down the Texas Tech Red Raiders. I mean, Florida really evened the Gainesville Super Regional up in truly impressive fashion as Texas Tech’s bats vanished and the Red Raiders lost 10-2 against the Gators

Unfortunately for the Red Raiders, Rothrock was truly dominant. She wasn’t perfect, but she performed in a way that silenced Texas Tech’s bats. In a complete game effort, through 7.0 innings pitched, Rothrock threw 108 pitches and only gave up five hits and a couple of runs while also striking out five Texas Tech batters.

While that was going on, the Gators really came to life at the plate and caused all sorts of problems for NiJaree Canady and Samantha Lincoln. Florida strung together 14 hits as a team and the Gators scored 10 runs (all of which were earned). Canady and Lincoln did combine for six strikeouts, but they also gave up four walks to Florida in this matchup.

Texas Tech softball completely crumbled in Game 2 of the Gainesville Super Regional against the Florida Gators

Of course, the Gators were able to jump out to an early lead (and it ended up being a totally insurmountable sort of lead as well). When Florida took control of this game, the Gators didn’t let go.

Jocelyn Erickson hammered a first-inning home run to give the Gators a 2-0 lead over Texas Tech. Then, in the third, Florida tacked on another run to start building momentum (and a 3-0 advantage here).

Texas Tech did manage to put one run on the board in the bottom of the third inning as the Red Raiders took advantage of a couple of baserunners (who were hit by pitches) and some timely sacrifice flies. But that really was just about all the Red Raiders were able to do. By the time the top of the fifth inning rolled around, Texas Tech was trailing 5-2 and then the Gators plated four more runs.

Texas Tech managed just five hits and stranded 10 baserunners in this game. Compare that to how Texas Tech did in game one, when the Red Raiders had a dozen hits and scored 10 runs. Now things shift to a winner-moves-on, loser-goes-home situation on Sunday.
