It’s never a bad thing to start a weekend with a dominant victory. Thursday evening, even though it’s not fully a weekend night, is close enough in this case. The No. 2 Texas Tech Red Riders completely managed to befuddle and frustrate the Abilene Christian softball team.
Texas Tech advanced on to 17-1 overall as the Red Raiders managed to defeat Abilene Christian by completely and totally smothering them within just five innings on Thursday night. That’s huge, that’s bold, and Texas Tech continues to be both of these at the same time.
Thursday evening’s run rule victory is largely because the REd Raiders managed to explode and just routinely put a total of 13 runs scored up on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning alone, signifying that this game was going to be over in a quick window.
NiJaree Canady and the Texas Tech Red Raiders were greeted by a record softball crowd as they returned home to Lubbock for a few days
And while the first inning was remarkable, the second inning was almost as impressive for Texas Tech as the Red Raiders managed to add eight more runs to give themselves a 21-0 advantage over a clearly outmatched ACU team.
All along the way, as the Red Raiders kept pummeling ACU’s pitching staff, the Red Raiders were getting a dominant performance from NiJaree Canady, who gave up just one hit, issued one walk, and then managed to strike out nine batters on a total of 69 pitches in just 5.0 innings.
And 5.0 innings is the limit for this game. The Red Raiders were able to get a 24-0 run rule win over ACU. It wasn’t exactly the greatest win in Texas Tech softball history, but it was dominant and exciting and a great way to start a busy home weekend.
