Gerry Glasco and the Texas Tech Red Raiders need just one more win to get back to the Women' s College World Series. Just one more win and the Texas Tech softball team will have the opportunity to play in Oklahoma City once more.

In game 1 of the 2026 Gainesville Super Regional, the Red Raiders managed to upend the Florida Gators as Texas Tech answered literally everything that UF threw their way. Every time Florida scored, Texas Tech responded in kind and was ultimately able to take a late inning lead thanks to a two-run home run from former Gator Mia Williams.

This win is huge in a number of ways, but it shouldn’t go unnoticed that Texas Tech was previously winless against the Florida softball program. This is the first win for the Red Raiders against one of the most impressive programs in all of college softball.

Texas Tech softball is now one win away from the Women’s College World Series thanks to a 2-run homer from Mia Williams vs Florida

Early on in this game, Tech trailed 1-0 and was held scoreless for a few innings thanks to the dominance from Keagan Rothrock in the circle for the Gators. But the 4th inning broke open for the Red Raiders as three consecutive doubles put Texas Tech on top 3-1.

Florida turned to Olivia Miller in the 5th inning and that allowed the Red Raiders to put a few more runs up on the board as Lauren Allred crushed a three-run home run, which was followed by a Laci Quiroga single shot, giving Texas Tech a 7-1 advantage over the Gators.

It’s a great thing that Texas Tech took advantage of those home run opportunities because the Gators responded with a few of their own. Florida, thanks to a barrage of four home runs, were able to score seven runs across the 5th and 6th innings and found themselves tied with the Red Raiders at 8-8 heading into the 7th inning.

With the game all tied up at 8-8, Quiroga was able to draw a lead off walk which Mia Williams then turned into a 2-run home run to give the Red Raiders a 10-8 advantage over her former team.

Texas Tech had some pitching problems. The Gators are productive at the plate and there’s something to be explored with the way the Red Raiders were vulnerable there. Regardless, Texas Tech has a nice little one game advantage right now in this best-of-three series against Florida.

Again, with the win, the Red Raiders just need to beat Florida one more time to end up in the Women’s College World Series. Texas Tech is now 56-6 overall. Florida now sits on the verge of elimination.
