I sometimes think it’s a little odd that the Texas Tech Red Raiders, historically speaking, don’t have a series advantage over the Houston Cougars. It’s just a bit of an odd thing to me, but that’s the fun part of examining college football history. You get to find fun, odd tidbits of information that reveal some intriguing eras of this sport’s history.

But right now, this is a series that Texas Tech has controlled in recent years. This is a matchup that has gone in Texas Tech’s favor for over essentially the last 30 or so years. I mean, folks over the past three decades don’t really know much different here.

Texas Tech has found plenty of recent success over the Houston Cougars, including winning NINE of the last 10 matchups dating back to 1992. UH really hasn’t done much in this series recently. At the moment, Texas Tech is on a really solid winning streak as the Red Raiders have claimed the last six games against the Cougars.

And TTU will certainly be looking to continue that streak of success against Houston with their matchup this season.

2025 Texas Tech football schedule: When will the Red Raiders face the Houston Cougars?

Unfortunately for Tech, the Red Raiders won’t be getting to play Houston in Lubbock this season. A couple weeks after playing on the road in Salt Lake City against the Utah Utes and one week after a bye week, Texas Tech will hit the road to the Bayou City to face off against Red Raiders’ new defensive coordinator Shiel Wood’s former employer.

On October 4 (with a kickoff time that is yet to be announced), the Red Raiders and the Cougars will face one another once more. It’s been a couple years since they last met up, so it’s good to see these two on the gridiron against one another this season. It’d be great if that matchup happened to be in Lubbock, but we’ll take what we can get, you know?
