If you were able to catch the matchup between the Texas Tech softball team and the Abilene Christian Wildcats from earlier this season, something tells me that you wouldn’t be shocked to hear that the ACU Wildcats are going to be completely and totally outmatched when they face off against the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

Back in February, the Red Raiders delivered a 24-0 Texas Tech softball win over ACU. This game was over in a hurry and probably could have ended before the conventional five-inning mercy rule timeframe. We can probably expect more of the same tonight.

Now, as Texas Tech takes a Tuesday night trip to Abilene Christian, we’re going to see a mismatch across every measurable category in college softball.

Stats preview: No. 2 Texas Tech unsurprisingly has a massive advantage over the Abilene Christian Wildcats

Texas Tech enters this game with a .404 batting average while the Wildcats are sitting at .251 on the season so far. Texas Tech has managed to launch a total of 75 home runs on the season, which is more than four times ACU’s total of 18 home runs so far this year.

Just looking at those numbers, I think you’re not going to be shocked that Texas Tech has driven in 333 runs while the Wildcats have just 97 runs driven in on the season.

Spoiler alert: Texas Tech has a much better softball team than the Wildcats do.

We don’t even have to get to pitching to see more of a stark contrast. We can see that as the Red Raiders and the Wildcats have managed to do damage on the basepaths. Texas Tech has stolen 82 bases on the season. The Wildcats have swiped just 30 bases this year.

Kudos to the Abilene Christian softball team for scheduling these sorts of games. These sorts of contests aren’t easy, especially in the midst of an incredibly difficult season. The Wildcats aren’t having much fun this year as they’re sitting at 4-27 on the season. And that’s part of why this mismatch is so absurd. Texas Tech is 34-2 on the season.
