Marvin Terry

4-star defensive end, Oak Cliff, TX

Just a month ago, Terry committed to Missouri over Texas Tech, which came as a bit of a surprise given the head coaching change in Columbia. But when the Tigers promoted defensive coordinator Barry Odom to head coach, Terry seemed to have his concerns assuaged.

Texas Tech is not giving up though. New assistant coach Emmett Jones, the former head coach at Terry’s high school, South Oak Cliff High School in Dallas, has a personal relationship with the star recruit.

For that last two years, Jones has not been allowed to be on the recruiting trail for Texas Tech because he was not a member of the coaching staff. But now Jones has hit the road for most of December and January and he is keeping in touch with Terry.

Right now it seems a long shot for Texas Tech to flip Terry. Missouri plays in the SEC and Odom has a reputation of turning out numerous NFL defensive line prospects.

Meanwhile, Texas Tech has been recruiting Terry without being able to tell him who would be his position coach until last week. But there is a slight chance that Jones, Kingsbury and new defensive line coach Kevin Patrick can change Terry’s mind. If that happens, there will be much rejoicing in the Texas Tech football offices.
