Super Bowl XLIX – Danny Amendola

In 2015 one of the most productive Texas Tech football players of the last decade, inside receiver Danny Amendola helped the New England Patriots defeat the defending champion Seattle Seahawks 28-24 in what many consider to be the best Super Bowl ever.

In the game, Amendola caught 5 passes for 48 yards and a key second half touchdown that ignited New England’s come-from-behind rally. With just 7:44 left to play in the game and his team trailing 24-14, Amendola snagged a 4-yard touchdown pass from Tom Brady to pull the Patriots within three points.

New England would score again with 4:50 left to play to take a four-point lead.

Ultimately, an interception on 4th-and-goal by Amendola’s teammate Malcolm Butler would seal the victory for the Patriots making Danny Amendola from The Woodlands, Texas a world champion.

Amendola played at Texas Tech from 2004-2007 and currently ranks 9th in school history with 204 career receptions. His 107 catches in 2007 are the second-most in a single season by a Red Raider and his 14 catches against Oklahoma State in that same season are tied for the fifth-most in a single game at Texas Tech.
