Tim Tadlock needed a new pitching coach. The Texas Tech baseball team absolutely had to go in a different direction after a few really rough seasons on the mound. In 2025, we’re talking about a team that managed to go out and walk 243 opposing batters.

This is a group that really struggled. And so, because of that, Texas Tech went out and found Steve Foster in Colorado.

And while he wasn’t coaching college baseball, he was helping the Colorado Rockies out a bit with their pitching staff. Tadlock was able to convince Foster to leave Colorado in favor of having a chance to coach (and hopefully improve) the Red Raiders pitching staff.

Which, to be completely honest, Texas Tech definitely needs some help improving its pitching staff. Again, 243 walks in just one season.

That ain’t great.

The Red Raiders announced the new hire on Tuesday, but Kendall Rogers of D1 Baseball was on the news a bit sooner than that because he knows a lot about college baseball.

With this news getting out there, it’s no surprise that folks had things to say about the matter. In fact, we’ve even got a few strong opinions on this hire for Texas Tech.

A lot of folks had, uh, some opinions on the matter given Foster’s current role and the way the Rockies have struggled on the mound in recent seasons.

And then there were folks who were just kinda blunt about the whole thing.

Other folks? Well, they had some high praises for Texas Tech’s new pitching coach.

We’re going to see how exactly this shakes out for Tadlock, Foster, and the Red Raiders. Texas Tech definitely needs a bit of life on the mound and the Red Raiders might just benefit from having Foster in Lubbock. We’ll see. To be completely honest, it’d be shocking if the Red Raiders weren’t, at bare minimum, just a bit better next season.
