Tim Tadlock and the Texas Tech baseball team officially have a new pitching coach who will be joining the Red Raiders in Lubbock. On Tuesday, Texas Tech announced the hiring of Steve Foster as the new pitching coach for Tadlock’s Red Raiders moving forward.

Foster is an interesting candidate for the role. At 58 years old, he’s not exactly the youngest guy ever. He also hasn’t exactly spent an abundant amount of time coaching in the college ranks. In fact, as a coach, he’s spent his time in the Major League Baseball side of things.

So it’s an interesting hire. And as with any hire (interesting or otherwise), folks are going to have opinions on the matter. Given that this is a Texas Tech baseball hire, it makes sense to see what Texas Tech baseball fans are saying on the matter.

Some folks? Well, they sure seem pretty excited about Foster heading to Lubbock.

Others? Uhhh, I mean, well. They may or may not want a few more changes to be made to the Texas Tech baseball program. Or, well, they just weren’t thrilled for one reason or another. Regardless, they’ve got, uh, opinions on the matter.

And then there were some folks who just had questions about Foster’s ability to add to the roster for the Red Raiders. And given how so much of Foster’s career has been spent just about exclusively helping develop pitchers (simply because he has been at the MLB side of things instead of in the college side of things), I think that’s a fair thing to wonder about.

We’ll see how it all pans out. The Red Raiders desperately need some help on the mound. They’ve been an absolute disaster when it comes to pitching in recent seasons. And even if Foster isn’t the best recruiter ever, if he can help the Red Raiders develop talent a bit, that’d almost certainly be a huge improvement for this team.
