As Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech Red Raiders continue to have success picking up talented recruits and building upon the 2026 recruiting class, college football fans continue to take notice of what’s happening out in West Texas.

Most recently, Donovan Webb (one of the most talented defensive backs in the Lone Star State in this recruiting cycle) committed to head out to Lubbock after he graduates from high school so that he can play for McGuire and the Red Raiders.

And as the 4-star from Frisco announced his intention to play for Texas Tech instead of the Michigan Wolverines, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Kansas State Wildcats, and many other teams, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that college football fans had plenty of thoughts on the matter.

Here’s what college football fans had to say on the matter:

Yeah, Texas Tech is investing heavily in having success going forward. It’s a cool thing to see. I, for one, am here for it.

I love that Michigan fans are (generally speaking) supportive of this.

Now, some Michigan fans do seem a little, uh, sad. Which, you know, that’s fair. I don’t totally blame them for being a little upset.

Apparently Texas Tech is going to be the only team that has players enter the portal next year?

Maybe this is an issue, I suppose there’s potential for that, but also the Red Raiders have done well through the transfer portal in recent recruiting cycles and it seems like Texas Tech is well prepared for this current era of college football. I’m not worried about this one.

I don’t know what’s going on with this dude. My guess is it’s engagement bait? Or he just has big feelings about Lubbock? I don’t get it.

Speaking of Lubbock, we’ve got a geography/Texas region debate!

Regardless of how you feel about where certain regions in Texas start and end, that doesn’t matter too much right now. Because the Red Raiders just picked up a really talented defensive back. That’s what matters.

Joey McGuire and his staff sure seem to be THRIVING on the recruiting trail right now as the Red Raiders are picking up some fascinating talent on the defensive side of the ball. It’s really intriguing (and entertaining) to see that be an emphasis for Texas Tech when so much of the past couple of decades have been defined by TTU overlooking defense. I’m here for it.
