Look, it’s got to be said that there’s absolutely no way that Patrick Mahomes is ready to play right now. That’s got to be clear. But in just a handful of months after suffering a devastating season ending injury to his knee, he’s moving around and throwing at the Kansas City Chiefs’ OTAs. And that’s absolutely absurd (and truly encouraging for his recovery).

On Tuesday, Mahomes was able to join the Chiefs during practice and showcased how his recovery was going. Just a reminder, Mahomes tore the ACL and LCL in his left knee. And the Kansas City Chiefs social media team just put out a video of Mahomes (in a pretty intense brace that seems to be covering the majority of his left leg) moving around and throwing on the run.

I don’t understand how that’s physically possible. It’s a short clip. We don’t see the full extent of everything. But still, Mahomes didn’t look hindered as he was moving and throwing. Even if this was the most impressive moment that the Texas Tech Red Raiders legend had during the entire practice, it’s absolutely something to be impressed by.

And Kansas City fans should be thrilled.

Texas Tech legend Patrick Mahomes isn’t 100 percent healthy, but he’s moving around and throwing at Kansas City’s OTAs

If you haven’t already seen it, you need to check out this clip:

He’s mobile. Folks, he's moving around on the field.

I mean, he's probably not as mobile as he will eventually be (hopefully he is able to continue to improve, recover, gain strength, and get set for the upcoming season with the Chiefs without any issue).

And he’s throwing!

Sure, we don’t see where the ball lands, its overall trajectory, how it moved through the air, or anything like that. That’s some pretty important context that’s missing.

But again, this is roughly five months after Mahomes tore his ACL and LCL and he’s up and moving and running and throwing. That’s such a win for the Chiefs and for the former Texas Tech quarterback. They should be optimistic about his recovery if he’s able to get around and do that.

It’s going to be fascinating to keep up with Mahomes and his overall recovery process over the next few months. The Chiefs marketing team clearly isn’t going for the “temper expectations” sort of narrative as he gets back to action. Kansas City is going all in on the hope angle. And that’s fun, but hopefully expectations are managed to some extent.
