As the Texas Tech softball team continues moving along in the postseason, it sounds like the head coach for the Red Raiders believes that this team has come quite a long way from where it was earlier in the season. Texas Tech, now 56-6 on the season, just took Game 1 of the Gainesville Super Regional from the Florida Gators.

And it happened in pretty dramatic fashion. A dozen hits, three home runs, and a late inning scoring surge. All of that led to a 10-8 win for the Red Raiders against one of the most impressive teams in the country.

But the head coach of the Texas Tech softball team apparently still seems to think that there’s more room for growth, even with this group looking much tougher than what the Red Raiders looked early on in the season.

‘I don’t think we’re at full potential yet’: Texas Tech’s Glasco notes that the Red Raiders still have room for improvement

“I think it’s taken this team a long time to find the best version of itself,” Glasco explained during a postgame press conference following Texas Tech's win over the Florida Gators. “I still think we’re going to get a little bit better. I don’t think we’re at full potential yet.”

Still, the Red Raiders have turned a corner lately and they’re playing like a full team that trusts each other.

“I felt like after Ole Miss, I told several people, I’ve got some softball buddies I talk to, I think we took a turn and we’re going to become a better ball team in front of us now,” Glasco continued. “I felt like that was a turning point I’ve been waiting on.”

So much of that has to do with the amount of talent that’s been brought to play together in Lubbock and the process of developing as a collective unit. Things weren’t always perfect through the regular season (and they’re still not 100 percent perfect), but they sure do look a lot better right now.

“We just hadn’t been comfortable, a bunch of great individual players but not playing as a team,” Glasco said. “I felt like especially in that game when it was 8-0, they finally understood my message.”

And that message seems to have carried over today. The Red Raiders have really shown resilience lately and as a result, Texas Tech is now just one win away from making it back to Oklahoma City and the Women’s College World Series for the second time in program history. And of course, Glasco still believes this group can continue to improve.
