Gerry Glasco and the No. 2 Texas Tech Red Raiders are in a pretty solid spot right now. That’s easy to say given how much talent is all over the field for the Texas Tech softball team. And it’s also easy to say when you look at the context of how Texas Tech went out and absolutely crushed the Iowa State Cyclones in the first game of their three-game series.
Now, No. 2 Texas Tech is in the perfect position to be able to claim the series from the Cyclones, who really seemed to be out of their league in Friday night’s 9-1, five-inning run-rule win for the Red Raiders. I mean, if you’re striking out eight times in 17 at-bats, you’re just not having a great game at all.
And that was the case for Iowa State against Texas Tech on Friday. Here’s to hoping it'll be the case once more for the Cyclones in game 2 against the Red Raiders.
Texas Tech aiming to claim series against Iowa State as the No. 2 ranked Red Raiders host the Cyclones for game 2
Should Texas Tech be able to win the series against the Cyclones, the Red Raiders would sit at 33-2 overall and then 10-1 in conference play, putting the Texas Tech softball team in a fantastic position to continue to thrive down the stretch of the season and to win the Big 12 regular season title.
And of course, beating Iowa State once again would put the Red Raiders in position to sweep the Cyclones. Which, to be completely honest, I don’t have anything against Iowa State, but I wouldn't complain about the possibility of Texas Tech sweeping someone. We’ll see how it all plays out. There’s a chance that Iowa State makes things challenging and interesting for Texas Tech.
The game will be played at 2 p.m. in Lubbock at the newly named Tracy Sellers Field.
