Look, Thursday’s Texas Tech softball game was a lot more fun to keep up with than what we just saw on Saturday. In Game 7 of the 2026 Women’s College World Series, as Gerry Glasco and the Red Raiders were matched up with the Tennessee Lady Vols in the winners’ bracket, Texas Tech just couldn’t get anything going at the plate.

Truly, it’s a little worrying. Texas Tech’s bats basically evaporated when the Red Raiders were matched up with the Lady Vols. Now, Texas Tech’s pitching staff did basically everything possible to keep up with Tennessee. But if you’re not able to score many runs, you’re probably not going to come out with a win.

Thus, you know, Texas Tech losing 2-1 to Tennessee on Day 3 of the Women’s College World Series. It sucks. Red Raider softball fans are understandably not thrilled (though some still feel optimistic). Tennessee softball fans are pretty happy at the moment.

Tennessee softball fans sound off after the Lady Vols beat Texas Tech on an extra inning walkoff home run

Here’s what Tennessee softball fans had to say after Texas Tech came up short in extra innings against the Lady Vols:

Yeah, Tennessee softball fans were feeling a little froggy.

I mean, this post was nice. I liked that post.

The situation sucks, but that’s just part of it. For a team like Texas Tech working to become a national power, this comes with the territory. The Red Raiders have a target on their back and Tennessee fans are glad to take shots at it after their team managed to win a nail-biting sort of affair.

Texas Tech will (theoretically) have a chance at revenge against Tennessee should the Red Raiders make it through three games unscathed.

But that would require the Texas Tech softball team to beat the UCLA Bruins (who lost to Alabama on Day 1 but then absolutely pummeled the Arkansas Razorbacks 11-0 in a run-rule beating). And then after that, Texas Tech would have to beat the winner of Alabama vs Nebraska in back-to-back games.

We’re about to find out just how good this Texas Tech softball team really is and if they’re really ready for this sort of moment. They’ve looked that way through just about all of the season. Can they bounce back after falling short today? Hopefully the answer to that is yes. We'll see soon enough though.
