While folks out in Lubbock are enjoying seeing the Texas Tech football coaching staff have fun on the recruiting trail, it appears like some folks on the internet aren’t having a great time watching the Red Raiders pick up commitments from talented recruits across the state of Texas.
And you know what, I’m here for it.
I think most Texas Tech football fans will be here for it as well. The Red Raiders are a historical underdog and they currently reside in a conference that is full of historical underdogs. We’re not talking about any blue blood teams here. We’re talking about a team that is looking to elevate itself in a way that makes sense in this new era of college football.
So, you know, it should be celebrated that this team is existing in a way that will lead to longterm success and considerable improvements. Some folks are annoyed, but that’s fine.
And if you want to see an example of folks being annoyed on social media, let’s take a gander at the way people sounded off following Chase Campbell’s commitment to play for Joey McGuire and the Red Raiders.
Texas Tech football’s recruiting wins are apparently annoying some college football fans, which is fine
Here is Hayes Fawcett sharing a social media graphic as he does with many high profile recruits (sidenote, I’m not a fan of Fawcett’s design style, but I’ve come to respect the way the dude has had a huge role in setting a trend):
BREAKING: Four-Star WR Chase Campbell has Committed to Texas Tech, he tells me for @rivals

The 6’2 190 WR from Wolfforth, TX chose the Red Raiders over Baylor & Kansas State
He’s ranked as a Top 60 Recruit in the ‘26 Class (No. 8 WR) per Rivalshttps://t.co/34Ts89aMWl pic.twitter.com/lpr2yojBEl
And here’s what college football fans outside of Lubbock have to say:
To who?

They can’t get a recruit without paying for it 😂

Just to go 7-5
— Calvin Applebottom (@MaroonKoolAid_) July 22, 2025
There are folks with opinions on the matter, of course. These folks are, uh, not happy.
Wolfforth is basically Lubbock. He chose to stay home. All the money Tech's paying is a bonus.

Is this really news? The money, the hometown connection, the recruiting class for Tech this year has been one of the best.

I, for one, appreciate that Campbell wants to stick around West Texas and potentially play a role in further elevating the Red Raiders. And I, for one, respect that he wants to get paid to hang out in his stomping grounds and help Texas Tech win. Some folks may not be thrilled about it, but I’m here for it.
Sark lockered again, in his own backyard 😭

We’ve got an Oklahoma fan mocking Texas...
Does Oklahoma even recruit anymore???
— Mike (@MikeCowboys07) July 22, 2025
And a Texas fan mocking Oklahoma!
Texas Tech may not be the center of the college football world right now, but the Red Raiders certainly are the center of plenty of discussions these days. From one of the best transfer portal classes during the 2025 recruiting cycle to the steady, consistent recruiting success, we’re seeing the Red Raiders talked about plenty. And I’m a fan of that.
