We’re in the peak of the college football offseason and the Texas Tech Red Raiders are getting a ton of attention right now for the way they’re recruiting. Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech football team have found a way to build a really impressive recruiting class for 2027. It’s early, but eight of the top 10 players committed to Big 12 schools are currently committed to Texas Tech.

That’s exciting to watch, especially since Texas Tech has traditionally not been a recruiting powerhouse. The Red Raiders have often been overlooked. But McGuire and this athletics department have found ways to change that.

It certainly helps that Cody Campbell and various other donors have stepped up in a very meaningful way that has elevated this program’s recruiting prowess.

And of course, it also helps that the Red Raiders just won a dozen games, the Big 12 championship, and made it all the way to the College Football Playoff. There’s a proof of concept in play right now and Texas Tech is looking to build upon that foundation.

Texas Tech football fans seem grateful for that. And they’re certainly thrilled that the Red Raiders have the most talented recruiting class in the conference right now.

Red Raider fans react as Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech football team lead the Big 12 with the most talented 2027 recruiting class

Here’s what Texas Tech fans had to say as the Red Raiders currently lead the Big 12 with the most talented recruiting class in the conference for the 2027 cycle:

The Red Raiders are really primed to thrive right now and the rest of the Big 12 will need to find a way to keep up. But thankfully, that’s a them problem and not a Texas Tech problem. With the way the Red Raiders are recruiting, there’s going to be mounting pressure all over the place in this conference.

It really looks like McGuire and his coaching staff are building for the future and doing everything possible to keep this momentum rolling forward. And if Texas Tech can keep this sort of recruiting momentum going, it really seems plausible for the Red Raiders to be able to contend with teams in a more substantial manner when making it to the College Football Playoff.

When you combine this sort of talent influx becoming a more regular thing along with the way the Red Raiders are able to build up their roster through the transfer portal on an annual basis along with innovative coordinators like Shiel Wood and Mack Leftwich, then you’re going to get success at a high level. It’s just going to happen.

Texas Tech is poised to continue controlling the Big 12 for the foreseeable future as the Red Raiders keep recruiting like this. That doesn’t seem likely to change. And even though Texas Tech came up short against Oregon in the Orange Bowl, it looks like McGuire and the Red Raiders are gearing up to compete better moving forward.
