In 2025, the Texas Tech Red Raiders will have an opportunity to make some history when they take on the Arizona State Sun Devils. While the two teams have faced each other a little more than a handful of times, the series history here goes back the better part of a century. And in this series, neither team has managed to win a true road game.

This season, Texas Tech will have a chance to change that trend. And this is a series that Texas Tech has won a few games in. It’s about time for the Red Raiders to go on the road to Tempe, Arizona and get a victory over the Sun Devils.

The first time these two teams met was back in 1937, which was a pretty long time ago. We’re talking about a half dozen meetings sprinkled across a little more than 87 years of college football history. Which is very few games and a very long timeframe.

2025 Texas Tech football history: Can the Red Raiders make history happen on the road vs. the Arizona State Sun Devils?

And in those six meetings between Arizona State and Texas Tech, neither team has found a way to get a win on the opponent’s home turf. Texas Tech has a perfect 3-0 record at home in Lubbock while the Arizona State Sun Devils have a perfect 2-0 record at home in Tempe.

And if you’re doing the math at home, you’ll notice that equals five games, not six. That’s because in 2013, Texas Tech managed to get a neutral site victory in the form of a bowl game win in San Diego, California over Arizona State.

The most recent meeting between Arizona State and Texas Tech happened to be the first meeting where both teams were members of the Big 12 as the Sun Devils (the eventual Big 12 champs in 2024) came up short, losing 30-22 to the Red Raiders on September 21, 2024.
