The series between the Oklahoma State Cowboys and Texas Tech Red Raiders is a pretty solid, evenly contested sort of matchup. We’re talking about a series that isn’t lopsided one way or the other. Neither team has really controlled things throughout the history of this series.

Now, all that said, recent history against the Cowboys hasn’t been all that much fun for the Texas Tech football team.

Last season, Texas Tech claimed a win in a 56-48 shootout against an Oklahoma State team that was truly a mess. And it’s worth noting that the Red Raiders have won three of the last six in this series, which is nice, I guess.

But from 2020 to 2022, Texas Tech lost all three meetings between the Red Raiders and the Cowboys. And it wasn’t much better from 2009 to 2017, when Oklahoma State managed to win every single matchup against Texas Tech.

So yeah. Not too much fun in this series over the past two decades for the Texas Tech football team.

Texas Tech football history: Will the Red Raiders be able to build momentum against the Oklahoma State Cowboys in 2025?

The Red Raiders have won just three of the last 10 games against Oklahoma State, but now seems like a decent opportunity to build a bit of steam against a program whose longtime head coach could certainly be on the hot seat this season.

Texas Tech was able to snap that losing streak against Oklahoma State with that eight point win last November. Will we see the Red Raiders get a much needed win to give Mike Gundy even more pressure to try and keep his job in Stillwater?

The Red Raiders are 11-7 at home when facing Oklahoma State (which is much better than that 5-14 road record against the Cowboys) and this game is going to be in Lubbock in late October.

It really does feel like a great opportunity for the Red Raiders to build a bit of momentum running towards the end of the season AND in this series against a team that has gotten the best of Texas Tech for much of this millennia.
