A new era of college athletics is here and it sure seems like the Texas Tech Red Raiders are ready to meet that head on. Kirby Hocutt and the Red Raider leadership have apparently been preparing for the changes that are happening in college sports with the revenue sharing model that is upon us.

But the extent to which they’ve prepared? Well, that’s going to shock some folks.

It shouldn’t surprise anyone that oil money boosters would want to support the Red Raiders and their endeavors. With the revenue sharing, it sure looks like Texas Tech is among those that are fully prepared for this new era of college sports.

There’s more beyond just revenue sharing though and it sure looks like the Red Raiders are dumping an amazing amount of money at their rosters across all of their sports for the upcoming year. Like, we’re talking about an incredible sum of money.

Just how much are we talking?

Texas Tech Red Raiders reportedly putting well over $50 million into 2025 roster between revenue share and NIL deals

A LOT OF MONEY. AN ABSURD AMOUNT OF MONEY.

According to Brandon Marcello over at CBS Sports, the Texas Tech athletics department might be paying as much as $55 million to its athletes this coming year. Which, you know, that’s substantial. It’s also substantially more than the $20.5 million that is coming directly from revenue sharing efforts.

Assuming I’m doing my math right, we’re talking about roughly $34.5 million of NIL deals reportedly floating around out in Lubbock for this next year.

Yeah, I’d say Hocutt’s statement was accurate. If this report from Marcello is even remotely close to being right (and there’s certainly no reason to doubt him on this), then we’re talking about Texas Tech truly being prepared to meet this moment as the Red Raiders aim to thrive as an athletics department moving forward.
