It sure looks like Lane Kiffin and the LSU Tigers aren’t thrilled that Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech Red Raiders have a commitment from a 5-star for the 2027 recruiting class that the folks in Baton Rouge are hoping to get.

And because Anthony Sweeney is currently committed to Texas Tech instead of LSU, Kiffin and the Tigers are doing what they can to change that.

Right now, it looks like the Tigers are going to make a push for Sweeney in hopes of flipping him from Texas Tech to LSU. And while that’s certainly a possibility to actually happen, it’s yet to be seen if it will actually happen.

It’s going to be such an interesting sort of experiment to see what unfolds here. Because as Texas Tech is on the rise, LSU is trying to rebuild. McGuire was coaching in the College Football Playoff and won the Big 12. LSU had to poach away a coach who elevated his prior team to CFP status.

Will we get any sort of fun talking point to come out of this recruiting battle that impacts the way we view either the Tigers or the Red Raiders as programs?

College football fans weigh in as LSU is in pursuit of Texas Tech’s 5-star commit Anthony Sweeney

With all of this, it looks like Texas Tech football fans aren’t too upset about the fact that the Red Raiders are in the midst of a recruiting battle with Kiffin and the Tigers. Sure, it’s probably not ideal, but Red Raider fans don’t seem worried.

Of course, it also looks like LSU fans aren’t too upset about all of this anyways. In fact, some LSU fans seem to believe that this situation is going to play out exactly the way they want it to.

Here’s what LSU football fans had to say about the Tigers’ recent recruiting push for Sweeney.

The folks over in Baton Rouge seem to be pretty confident about their ability to snag just about any recruit that they could ever want.

I mean, we’ve even got some TCU Horned Frogs fans weighing in on the matter.

This is a fascinating recruiting battle because in some ways this is a blue blood vs. a new kid on the block sort of situation.

LSU is a powerhouse program that has been able to do just about anything it could ever want to over the past couple decades thanks to the momentum that Nick Saban established during his time in Baton Rouge. As for Texas Tech, the Red Raiders are a newly prominent team thanks to the power of *checks notes* oil money.

Which it’s not like LSU doesn’t have a *checks notes* a petroleum engineering program or a ton of alumni working in Houston. The Tigers have benefitted from that sort of wealth for a while now.
