As Mike Gundy’s time at Oklahoma State starts getting rockier and rockier, there is certainly a chance that we could soon see the end of a tenure that has caused a lot of trouble for the Texas Tech football program over the years.
Gundy has been the head coach of the Cowboys since 2005, which is a pretty long time. During that timeframe, we’ve seen Texas Tech struggle considerably with the Oklahoma State football team. I mean, Texas Tech is just 5-14 against Gundy’s Oklahoma State Cowboys.
That, my friends, is not good. And it’s interesting given the overall history of this series between these two teams. The Red Raiders hold an overall record of 17-21 against Oklahoma State in a series that goes all the way back to 1943.
Also worth noting, the home team generally controls this series. Texas Tech is 11-7 at home while just 5-14 in Stillwater. And so, this season, we’re talking about a situation in which Texas Tech will get to meet up with Oklahoma State after snapping a three game losing streak against the Cowboys last year.
And we’re also talking about a situation in which the Red Raiders will host Oklahoma State in late October as Gundy really tries to get the Cowboys functional once more.
So, we could be talking about a time in which this very frustrating era of this series comes to a close this season.
2025 Texas Tech football schedule: When will the Red Raiders face the Oklahoma State Cowboys?
Again, these teams are going to meet up in Lubbock in late October. Oklahoma State will come to town to face off against the Texas Tech Red Raiders on October 25, 2025 and this is a game that, depending on how the rest of Gundy’s season has been going up to this point, could be pretty pivotal for everyone involved.
Not only are we talking about an Oklahoma State team that is fresh off a very rough season, we’re talking about a Texas Tech team that has aspirations of competing for a Big 12 championship and the Cowboys are yet another team in the way of that.
