Gerry Glasco and the Texas Tech softball team just managed to stay alive and stay in the Women’s College World Series. In one of the most stressful games I’ve seen in a little while, the Texas Tech Red Raiders somehow found a way to come out on top of one of the most impressive lineups college softball has ever seen.

Entering into this game, the Bruins were just ridiculous. Up to this point in the season, prior to being eliminated, they’d hit well over 200 home runs this season and were just scoring runs by the dozen seemingly whenever they wanted.

UCLA’s pitching depth isn’t the best ever, but the Bruins are really good just all across the board and their home run hitters proved they could carry them to a win in just about every sort of circumstance.

And Texas Tech managed to outlast them. It took some careful maneuvering and swapping of pitchers. It took the Red Raiders finding a way to get their bats to wake up. I mean, Texas Tech was aggressive at the plate and aggressive on the basepaths. And Texas Tech won 8-7 in nine innings.

Now, UCLA softball fans have every right to feel heartbroken. As the Bruins go back to the West Coast after coming up short, there’s going to be a lot of emotions that come with a loss like this on this sort of stage.

UCLA softball fans endure heartbreak as the Texas Tech Red Raiders eliminate the Bruins from the Women’s College World Series

Here’s what UCLA fans had to say after the Bruins were eliminated by Texas Tech in the Women’s College World Series:

Honestly, losing a game like this is brutal. Especially for a team that has only lost 10 games all season long. UCLA has been a machine this season and the Red Raiders managed to survive their nine-inning encounter with them. That’s something for Texas Tech fans to be thrilled with and for UCLA fans to be a little distraught over.

It looks like, as a whole, the Bruins and their fans are having a rough time right now. I mean, baseball and softball and the whole nine yards. That’s not ideal, folks.

UCLA fans are passionate and they’ve had a lot to say about how far the Bruins have gone this season. As they should. Honestly, with how Texas Tech softball now has a couple of nail-biting wins over the Bruins, let’s make this something of a rivalry. Let’s get these two teams together more regularly. How do we make that happen?
