Left Guard:
Starter: Phil Tucker
Texas Tech’s first team left guard on the all-time roster is Phil Tucker who starred for Texas Tech from 1965-1967. The product of Tulia, TX was a member of the first Texas Tech team to beat conference rivals Texas and Arkansas in the same season.
That year, the 6-foot-tall, 233-pound Tucker was named first-team all-American. Tucker was a versatile player who also played tackle during the 1966 season.
Backup: Don King
A teammate of Tucker, King was also honored for his play at Texas Tech. From Wichita Falls, TX, King was named second-team all-American in 1968. He was also named to the Texas Tech Dream Team for the era of 1960-1994 by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football magazine.
