One of the most prominent programs out of the Southeastern Conference, the Florida Gators are back in Oklahoma City for the 2025 Women’s College World Series.
They’re also one of a handful of SEC teams that made it all the way to the Women’s College World Series this season (between the longtime members like the Florida Gators, Tennessee Lady Vols, Ole Miss Rebels, and then the new additions of the Oklahoma Sooners and the Texas Longhorns, there’s a very heavy SEC presence in OKC this year).
But how did Florida get to this point in the season? They’ve obviously had a ton of success and been able to win quite a few games all throughout the year, but what has their road to this point looked like?
Let’s go ahead and take a look:
2025 Women’s College World Series team profile: How did Florida make it to Oklahoma City?
Things started off pretty strong for the Gators as Florida swept through its first 13 games with ease. I mean, we’re talking about Florida not losing a game through much of its early slate. And then the Duke Blue Devils handed UF a shocking 8-1 beating.
And how did Florida respond?
Well, the Gators then went and won 11 straight right up into SEC play. The Gators did get an SEC series win over the Texas A&M Aggies, ended up losing their series at home against the Texas Longhorns, and then swept things against Auburn on the road.
April and May were somewhat up and down, but the Gators generally had success through SEC play as they posted a 14-10 conference record this season. All things considered, that’s pretty good. Florida was definitely great at home throughout the year, going 26-8 in Gainesville, but UF’s 15-6 road record isn’t anything to ignore.
UF did lose early on in the SEC Tournament, dropping a game against the Ole Miss Rebels and getting bounced from the conference tournament.
But, the Gators did get to host a regional and cleared through that with ease. When it came time for a Super Regional against the Georgia Bulldogs, Florida managed to win Game 1 by a score of 6-1, lost Game 2 in a pitchers’ duel, and then bounced back in Game 3 and won 5-2 to advance on to OKC.
