Gerry Glasco’s decision to go out and get another clutch pitcher to help keep the Texas Tech softball team from relying too much on NiJaree Canady was absolutely the right call and it has paid off for the Red Raiders once again.

As the Red Raiders have been making their way through the Women’s College World Series, Texas Tech has definitely needed someone like Kaitlyn Terry on their side to round out the pitching staff and give Texas Tech the flexibility needed to beat a team like the UCLA Bruins.

And last night it just so happened that Terry was instrumental in beating the Bruins, her former team. And it wasn’t just her performance in the circle that made a huge difference for the Red Raiders here. She also stepped up and had an incredibly important, timely hit against UCLA in extra innings.

Kaitlyn Terry’s clutch performance got the Texas Tech Red Raiders past her former team in the Women’s College World Series

With the Red Raiders and Bruins tied at 6-6 in the ninth inning, with Taylor Pannell on second base with zero outs, Terry managed to get the perfect sort of double to deep center which allowed Pannell to scoot around the basepaths and get home, giving Texas Tech a 7-6 lead.

And that was great. The go-ahead run (at the time) was definitely needed. But it was also great that Terry was able to get home as well after an error from the Bruins’ shortstop. That set Texas Tech up with an 8-6 advantage, which the Red Raiders needed. Because UCLA scored in the bottom of the ninth to create a lot of stress.

That said, Texas Tech survived. The Red Raiders won 8-7. And Terry was a huge part of that.

Just one day after suffering a frustrating loss against the Tennessee Lady Volunteers, Terry and the Red Raiders managed to get things figured out against the Bruins. That sort of redemption (and resiliency) absolutely has to feel good for Texas Tech right now as the Red Raiders have stayed alive in Oklahoma City.

Now Terry and Texas Tech get to play another game this evening. From there, hopefully the Red Raiders can force two games. And hopefully we’ll see Texas Tech come out on top of the Women’s College World Series semifinals to advance on to the championship series.

Regardless, there’s no way Texas Tech gets this far in this season without Terry stepping up and making an impact.
