What’s next for Texas Tech softball after beating the Ole Miss Rebels in WCWS?

I, for one, tend to think that it’s better to win than it is to lose. I, for one, also believe that, when faced with a double elimination tournament of such, it’s good to go ahead and get into the winners’ bracket as opposed into the elimination bracket.

Thankfully for the Texas Tech softball team, the Red Raiders managed to get a WCWS game 3 win over the Ole Miss Rebels on Thursday to start things off. And while the margin was close (a 1-0 shutout pitchers’ duel), the result pays off in a huge way for the Red Raiders. Texas Tech is now able to get some rest and get prepared for their next opponent.

Meanwhile, the Rebels now get the distinct and definite pleasure of trying to stay alive as they take on the elimination bracket. It sure is a good thing that Tech isn’t in that position. That’s never a fun spot to be in. One more loss and Ole Miss goes home.

As for Texas Tech?

Well, they’ll have the lovely opportunity to get a little bit of sleep, take some time to rest, and then start planning ahead to their next opponent, the UCLA Bruins (who beat the Oregon Ducks in walkoff fashion and sent Oregon into the elimination bracket to meet up with Ole Miss in the process).

Texas Tech softball schedule: When will the Red Raiders face the UCLA Bruins in the Women’s College World Series?

And when exactly will Gerry Glasco and the Red Raiders get back on the field and return to action? When will Texas Tech face off against UCLA? After a one day break, Texas Tech and UCLA will face off against one another on Saturday, May 31 at 7 p.m. (Central Time, of course) in Game 8 of the 2025 Women’s College World Series.

Again, winning is better than losing, especially in these circumstances. Should the Red Raiders manage to beat the Bruins, then we’ll be looking at a Texas Tech team that would then be just one win away from contending for a national championship.

And that, my friends, is an exciting thing. One step at a time and such, but here’s to hoping for that sort of step as a program.
